Description: Conceived as a luxury version of the Fiat 500, from which it derived its chassis and mechanics, the Bianchina was presented to the public on September 16, 1957 at the Museum of Science and Technology in Milan. Initially it was offered in a single three-box body style, called “Trasformabile,” featuring small rear fins, abundant chrome trim, and a canvas folding roof. The Bianchina was produced by Autobianchi from 1957 to 1969. In the first months of sales, sales were even higher than those of the more economical but more spartan “500,” despite the large price gap: the Bianchina cost LIT 565,000, or 15% more than the price of the Fiat 500. The Trasformabile was the first Bianchina version to debut in 1957 and the only one produced in the early years, until the arrival of the Panoramica and Cabriolet in 1960. Characterized by rear-hinged “suicide doors,” the Trasformabile was a small three-box 2-seater equipped with a large canvas folding roof that also incorporated the rear window (in plexiglass). Aesthetically, this version was recognizable by the rounded rear pillar and three chrome strips behind the door. It was produced until 1962. The 1958 Autobianchi Bianchina, chassis no. 110B*002843, is an example of a First Series A “Trasformabile,” with first registration in March 1958. The First Series A is the first to be officially released to the market, from November 1957 after the Turin International Motor Show, following the 50 pre-production examples, and was produced for only one year, until autumn 1958. Present on the dashboard are the elements that distinguish first series convertibles: horn button with gold B, speedometer scale to 100 km/h. It also features air intakes on the front grille and Fiat 110.000 engine. This example we are offering is an excellent basis for a professional restoration.
